What flowers grow well in michigan, planted indoors, and grow FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?

for a science fair project that must be done quickly! PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

What flowers grow well in michigan, planted indoors, and grow FAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!?
try planting tulips.
Reply:Marigolds but nothing is really fast. How long do you have? Forget me nots come up pretty quick. Nasturtiums will come up fairly quick also. But if you are starting from seed and expecting flowers in under 4 to 6 weeks I think you are out of luck. If you just need a flower plants to germinate, I would go with forget-me-nots. If you can use bulbs, than I agree with the other answerer...tulips, crocus or paper narcissus.

What flowers grow well in Ga.? I am new to the area?

Your best bet is to go to a local garden center as they are familiar with the climate, the soil conditions and can make knowledgeable suggestions.

What flowers grow well in Ga.? I am new to the area?
you must choose flowers that can take full sun if you live in southern GA. northern GA has a more varied climate. however, sometimes even full sun flowers can%26#039;t taks the southern heat!

What flowers would go well with a very formal tiffany blue and chocolate brown July wedding?

Im really looking for something elegant or unique. It is a big hall so I need centerpieces that will fill it out with the high ceilings and what not....your help is most appreciated. PICTURES PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE :-) thank u!

Also, if u have any other ideas to go with this color scheme, PLEASE let me know or leave some pictures. I really like vintage type styles...if that helps.

I think that Calla Lilies would look beautiful with that color scheme. Like these:

Hydragea%26#039;s are also lovely flowers that would look beautiful...

You could also use some ivory/champagne/white roses. Those always make lovely looking tall centerpieces. Like these:

Reply:One of the most elegant set of arrangements I have ever seen used, involved long, skinny crystal vases brimming with tall white lilies (featured flower) and willowy greenery spilling over the sides. You could tie the tall vases with thin, gauze ribbons highlighting your color scheme blue/brown.

The crystal vases were 18 to 24 inches high and filled space at eye level when guests are standing. Then when they are seated at the tables, guests can see to talk with each other, and table space is conserved.

You can continue the theme at cake tables or champagne/punch tables, and vary the height even more by stacking blocks of wood (or something stable) under the white tablecloths.

Or, you could use chocolate %26amp;/or blue small tablecloths (napkins) to cover blocks of wood on these tables and set your tall vase flowers at varying heights with birdseed bouquets or guest rememberences.
Reply:I%26#039;m going to have to say that the only color of flowers with will match and not look bad are white. I would accent white flowers with some blue ones in the centerpieces (you will probably have to have them dyed to match the tiffany blue). I wanted to use an aqua color in my wedding, but I also wanted pink roses because those were the first flowers my husband bought me when dating. I ended up matching my wedding to my flowers because those were important to me. It%26#039;s up to you, though. I would say white, or VERY subdued, pale colored flowers.

I%26#039;m thinking something larger, but similar to this in the respect that it has the blue accents in it.

Reply:I am actually using the same colors in my wedding but finding real flowers in that color were difficult, so I went with simple white calla lilys and actually dyed white tulips the tiffany blue just to throw some color in there, and then tied ribbon around the stems to get the color theme in as well!

Depending on what style wedding you would like....

Calla Lilies are nice. They have one that is almost brown. That would look nice.

Or a variety of simple while flowers with blue and brown breading or ribbon intertwined with the flowers.....We put beads and crystals in the center of some deep pitted flowers for my wedding. It looked amazing.
Reply:You can never go wrong with Calla Lillies. They are very elegant.

Also, check out either the Style tv website or We tv website. They just had a Tiffany blue them wedding on. I know Style had one on this morning from 2005 but it was chocolate brown and like a pink/mauve.
Reply:Id use a square 8x8 vase with calla lilies and glue a tiffany blue ribbon around vase.

other color combinations that are great are

yellow and brown or black

turqouise and red

pink and orange

fuschia and green
Reply:white lilies would look really elegant and it would go with the blue and brown. they arent short stemmed flowers but there are tall stalks of flowers im sure you can find that might fill in the empty space better
Reply:I used Calla Lillies in my wedding and it was beautiful! Filled a large space. Go to this site it will help you. It helped me loads

Reply:If you have a lot of the blue and brown, I%26#039;d suggest white. Calla lillies or casablanca lilies are pretty.
Reply:Sunflowers would be a good one....or roses I think you can have dyed any color.
Reply:Orchids
Reply:I think you should go back to white or cream for the flowers--something like white Calla lilies?
Reply:Calla lillies could work well.

Which flowers will do well in a lot of heat and sun?

I have a deck/patio on my 2nd floor and my plants always dry up and die, even though i water them regularly.

Which flowers will do well in a lot of heat and sun?
Try tropical plants such as canna lily. Petunias can take the heat, verbena, daisy, marigold also. Try putting peat moss around the plants %26quot;feet%26quot; it will keep the water from evaporating quite as fast between waterings. Misting them will help, too.
Reply:Part of it depends on what area of the country you are in. Coreopsis, lambs ear, mexican rose are all good for just about any area. with containers, plan on watering twice per day when it is really hot regardless of what you get IF you are in the south.
Reply:Four O%26#039;Clocks

Lantana

Moss Rose
Reply:Go to your garden center and ask for a product called %26quot;Soil Moist%26quot;

It is a product that looks like large salt granuals but put water on then and each granual will swell. It fells real funky to put your hand in it. Add this to your soil, follow the directoins, and this will help the soil to retain moisture.

It works pretty good.

Try getting self-watering containers that you water once a week. The water wicks up into the pot from a well below to the roots and keeps flowers evenly watered for up to a week, depending on where you live. There are also special potting soils that trap more moisture. You could also try some taller tropical plants to shade some of your flowers below from the sun and drying wind.
Reply:Marigolds and Zinnias do real well in the sun and they love it hot! Rose are good for heat and sun also

Can flowers grow in well in sand.?

They will with proper water and light but I would mix about 50% potting soil,it has nutrients and it has been composted so you do not have any weed seeds.

Can flowers grow in well in sand.?
Yes.
Reply:it all just depends on what the plant is, what zone youre in,what nutrients are in the soil, and the soil ph.
Reply:Some flowers can grow well in sand, but not all of them.

Many plants have adapted to seemingly adverse conditions.

Wild bergamot can grow in sand prairies.

Orchids have adapted to almost every environment on earth. Orchids grow in swamps, sand dunes and grasslands.

Umbrella Thorn Acacia is one of the most recognizable trees of the African savanna. It grows in sand dunes:

What flowers do well indoors?

I want to put some in my room.

What flowers do well indoors?
When choosing plants for a particular indoor location, you must assess the light and temperature that the plant will be exposed to. Also be aware if it%26#039;s a location subject to draft conditions.

If the plant is a flowering plant it may require certain conditions in order for it to repeat flowering.

I would say that light is probably the most important factor in indoor gardening. Most indoor plants are classified by high, medium and low light conditions.

The following are a list (by no means complete) of plants which are good starters for indoors:

Aspidistra elatior - Cast Iron Plant

Crassula argentea - Jade Plant

Dieffenbachia amoena - Dumb Cane

Ficus elastica - Indian Rubber Tree

Sansevieria trifasciata - Snake Plant
Reply:Ones that the stores sell indoors or say %26quot;Indoor Plants%26quot;
Reply:African Violets, and they are really pretty, and come in several colors.
Reply:Impatience seem to do well indoors! I have two pots that I have wintered for two years now! They are huge !!! I put them on my front porch during the summer and in a south facing window during the winter!
Reply:If you are able to place your plants close to the window so they get some natural lighting, I agree that African Violets should do well for you. If your plant is going to be placed a bit back from the window, perhaps a Spathophilium. It is available in a solid green leaf as well as a varigated variety, so even when it is not flowering, it is still an attractive plant for low light situations.
Reply:Flowering:

Gardenia

African Violets

Orchids

Begonias

Peace Lily

Christmas Cactus

Non flowering:

Philodendron

Spider ivy

English Ivy

Jade plant

Various Cacti

Pitcher plant

Venus fly trap
Reply:ivys usually do well indoors, i like englisg ivies, be sure to hang them up though.

What flowers would look good in front of a light blue house and in a well moisten area?

Because light blue is a cool color, you will need flowers with warm colors so they will make nice contrast. Red, yellow, orange, gold are warm colors, just pick what you like best.

I don%26#039;t know what zone you are in but for my area (zone 7), canna lilies are perfect for well moist soil. Also their flowers are red/ yellow/ orange that%26#039;s perfect. You need to dig them if you live in zone 6 or colder zones.

What flowers would look good in front of a light blue house and in a well moisten area?
My %26quot;front%26quot; gardens have California poppy (yellow-orange), agapanthas (a blue-purple color), trailing lantana (lavender color), Spanish Lavender (another purplish), and several ornamental grasses. The house is a light blue, we have sandy soil in Zone 9 (California)
Reply:Anything bright red or yellow would %26quot;pop%26quot; and show up beautifully. Visit your local nursery and explain the moisture conditions. They will be able to recommend which plants will do well in those conditions.

What Flowers go well with Orchids?

I have not yet decided the Orchid combination at our wedding. My fiancé has chosen Orchids (green or white). What do you think would make a good bouquet for me and a good bouquet for my bridesmaids? If you have suggestions on groomsmen boutonnières or other corsages PLEASE let me know!

Your bouquet needs to be the biggest and have another color that draws the eye to it and you of course. Your bridesmaids need smaller ones with a different drawing color. Maybe another color in your wedding.

Here is a site with some beautiful pictures and colors that go together very good

http://www.verbenadesigns.com/Bouquets.h...

I hope this helped. Have fun planning your wedding!!~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~``
Reply:There are a lot of flowers that go well with orchids ... calla lilies, roses and gerberas are a few choices. Orchids won%26#039;t be the bulk of the bouquet, though, because they can get to be very expensive (some are as high as $10 a stem). The gentlemen can wear callas or roses and the same goes for the mothers and grandmothers. A great trend is giving the mothers and grandmothers an actual replica bouquet, much smaller than yours of course, to carry instead of a wrist or pinned corsage.
Reply:Try the knot.com and weddingchannel.com you can also try typing in orchid bouquets into yahoo image search that might be your best bet
Reply:Since there are so many varieties of orchids - phalenopsis are a traditional wedding ordhid - you really need to first sit down and decide which one(s) you want to use. If you want the traditional bridal bouquet of phalenopsis and white roses with stephanotis that%26#039;s one look.

Here%26#039;s a link to MANY orchid bouquets samples along with styles and colors. Good Luck picking just one! LOL

http://images.google.com/images?hl=en%26amp;q=...
Reply:Orchids are such beautiful flowers and can make a fantastic bridal bouquet. White orchids with a small yellow flower and greens are lovely in a cascade bouquet for a bride. For bridesmaids and maid/matron of honor, I would choose a colored orchid, perhaps purple, or pink.

The lady slipper orchid, which is usually white and pink, would be nice on your groomsmen.

Congrats and best wishes on your impending marriage!
Reply:I am having orchids in my bouquet, too. This is the description of my bouquet per the florist:

hand tied bouquet with cymbidium orchids, white and creme roses, yellow fresia and pale yellow stock, lemon leaf collar wrapped in white satin with pearl pins.

My bridesmaids descriptions are:

white and creme roses, yellow fresia and pale yellow stock, lemon leaf collar and stem wrapped in creme satin with green ballet tie.

Your florist will know all of the combinations that will look great with orchids. I have seen a picture of my bouquet and it is absolutely beautiful! I saved the orchids for myself as they are a special flower (it was my florists suggestion that I keep the orchids just for my bouquet).

My colors are sage green and creme. Depending on what your wedding colors will be you may wish to use different colors.

Good luck!
Reply:Since Orchids are expensive, try to mix it with a flower that looks elegant but is much cheaper. Have one large orchid mixed in with white lilies, for example, and green fern-like leaves for the bridesmaids. The bride, for course, should have more orchids in a cascade bouquet. Give the groom and groomsmen all a single orchid boutonniere.

Do an image seach for orchid bouquet to get ideas. I love this one:

What flowers grow well in small containers?

I live in an apt. in West Texas. We have very little space, so I%26#039;d like to hang window-box type planters over the balcony. Since I am not a great gardener (I have managed to kill all plants I%26#039;ve ever owned, incl. cactus and %26quot;lucky%26quot; bamboo), I need something that is not too complicated to take care of. Something native or very hardy in extreme weather conditions, of course, though I can%26#039;t have cactus on the balcony (apt. complex rules). Pleasant smell is a plus, but really I just need something small, pretty, and hard to kill. Any ideas?

What flowers grow well in small containers?
Try miniature Marigolds. They are very hardy and are hard to kill. I find some growing in my yard just from when I rip the dead parts off the plant! Be sure to get the small ones as a mistake I made was not to look at the size and got some that grew four foot tall this year!! I didnt even know they could get that big!! But they are great for hardiness, and they smell good too, ALSO they attract butterflies in the fall!
Reply:The Super petunias that are out would look very pretty. If you are planting for now, there are some pretty pansys out. I love the sweet potatoe vines. Find out what is doing well in your area and then select something you like. Geraniums are pretty hardy. The thing about small containers which are outside is they dry out soon and need to be watered alot or the plants will just curl up and die. It takes commitment to keep them going. Good luck!
Reply:hanging ferns
Reply:If you have a K-Mart near you-check their garden section out. Martha Stewart had a kit you could buy with different herbs or flowers. It had everything you needed from the soil, the seeds and the pots. I think they were for windows. Kinda like a window box.

This might be something that could work for you! Good Luck and have fun.
Reply:I suggest Moss Rose. They are drought hardy, like full sun, and are succulent like cactus. They bloom in a lot of colors, and---BONUS--- frequently re-seed themselves for the next year. They will trail down in containers beautifully.

Hon, if you kill these, better get fake plants, lol!
Reply:Ivy is a pretty durable plant.

What flowers do well in stone gardens?

Trying to grow roses

What flowers do well in stone gardens?
Roses are not appropriate plants for a rock garden. Try such plants as sedum; hen and chickens; carpet phlox; Irish or Scotch moss; creeping thyme; basket of gold; snow on the mountain; grecian wind flowers. These will all spread out a bit and fill in the spaces around the rocks. Small varieties of ornamental grasses are also effective in rock gardens. Good luck to you! One of the prettiest gardens you can have is a well-established rock garden.
Reply:Roses need room for their roots so they wouldnt be ideal for your rock garden.

Stone crop or sedum is great as well as creeping phlox.

What flowers work well for a night-time wedding?

I%26#039;m not just talking about an evening wedding... I%26#039;m talking about a wedding ceremony that would take place under the stars.

What flowers work well for a night-time wedding?
When the flash of a camera goes off during the night, the dark colors are just going to appear as a dark splotch. Bright colors or even white may show up better. But I guess pictures are not your concern if you are getting married at night. I would go for white with a few dark ones mixed in (dk purple, dk blue, like a midnight sky).
Reply:Nothing beats white for a wedding
Reply:I would say large white flowers would be best, they will stand out in the darkness better than dark flowers. Calla Lillies would be great and also bunches of white orchids. Another idea would be to use crytals in your bouquet and ceremony flowers to add some sparkle, especially if you are using candles for lighting. Sounds like a beautiful wedding, Good Luck!
Reply:There aren%26#039;t day and evening flowers. You can have whatever you want. Please take pity on your guests with allergies and don%26#039;t have too many star gazer lilies they smell awful to some people. I%26#039;m guessing pictures aren%26#039;t that important to you since you%26#039;re getting married at night outside. I would choose white alstroemeria since they are beautiful, inexpensive and unscented.
Reply:What a beautiful idea! I might %26quot;barrow%26quot; this for my wedding. I think light colored flowers will stand out best. What about star gazer lilies! They would fit perfectly with your theme and are absolutely gorgeous!
Reply:Tiger Lilies
Reply:You would probably want to stick with bright colours in the bouquets %26amp; corsages as dark colours won%26#039;t show up very well in pictures. However, since you mentioned %26quot;under the stars%26quot; what about going with whites, silvers and maybe one accent colour like a bright blue. The silver would reflect the stars and moon idea behind a night time wedding.
Reply:i like a deep red rose i think there beautiful
Reply:white flowers, roses or carnations what about holding candles instead very pretty and classy
Reply:i think you should use white Christmas lights and wrap them around the flowers that would be so pretty

Which flowers do well in the shade and during winter and which ones are the all year rounders?

PINK PRINCESS ESCALLONIA is a great nearly year round bloom.

If you live somewhere that the winter is mild try Winter daphne they smell wonderful.

As far as shade goes try some of these. Look them up to see if you like the look. Remember flowers grow slower in the shade so buy big plants.

Alchemilla mollis

Arisaema triphyllum

Astilbe arendsii

Hosta hybrid

Krossa Regal a lot of lilies do good in shade.

What are some hardy flowers that would grow well in the sun and take little maintenance?

What are some hardy flowers that would grow well in the sun and take little maintenance?
daylilies. it%26#039;s impossible to kill a daylily with a lawnmower or a child.

they thrive on full sun, and even less care. they bloom for weeks on end in late summer and early fall here in zone 4.

they a multitude of colors and heights, and they are relatively inexpensive. they are also reliable, coming back year after year.

plan B might be peonies. they are easy to care for, but require staking in open areas.

for annuals, petunias and pansies are foolproof here. ask your local garden professional what works best in your area.

Reply:pacasandra are cool because they are basicaly a weed. they are a somewhat plane green plant, but are a ground cover plant. they are kind of like grass in that they grow outward and take almost no matenence. you can trim them every once and a while, or just let them grow. i think they are an evergreen because they stay green all winter, even under snow. they are good if you grow other hard stemed plants with it, but will not alow other plants to grow with it. however, i am not positive on whether or not they can grow in sunlight. Hosta are a broad leafed plant that grows from a bulb. they love shade and grow bigger every year and grow these purple shoots every year.

also they are perennials meaning they will come back every year bigger and better

Reply:irises are good. they pretty much take care of themselves.
Reply:Iris flowers. But be warned, they expand and take over. (Divide and conquer!!!)
Reply:Maybe it would be best to just go to a greenhouse garden shop and see what they have to offer. They would know what is best for your area. The garden shop that I visit have all their plants color-coded with stickers to show what degree of sunlight is best.

Revive rosebush and low maintenance inexpensive flowers/decorative plants that will fare well in Michigan.?

I am moving to a rental house in mid-June with some small flower beds. I have never planted anything before so no clue how to start or what to plant. I think there will be pretty good sunlight in the flower area. I know that there are some Lilly of the Valley and Daffodils in there right now. Also, there is a small rosebush. The landlord said it used to be fuller, but was almost destroyed by the previous occupants. Is there any way to revive it? Thanks so much in advance!

As for the rose bush I suggest you prune off any dead or damaged area%26#039;s and feed it some miracle grow save and crush your eggshells in an old milk jug {gallon} add water to these and use the water for the rose. Cover the rose bush with an old bucket or garbage can this winter. Marigolds and pansy%26#039;s petunia%26#039;s, all grow well in Michigan and require little work. Moss rose%26#039;s and Sweet William%26#039;s are also low maintenance. Good Luck.
Reply:Aerate first around bush. Use a screwdriver (knife, whatever) and poke holes in the dirt all around the bush. Scatter all you want coffee grounds (egg shells too) around it then water with mild fertilizer (miracle grow, 1 tsp/ gal water) That should jump start the little doll. Oh, prune off any obviously damaged branches.

I%26#039;m in SC so I can%26#039;t advise on other flowers. Don%26#039;t peoneys grow well up there? What about Gerbera Daisies, dianthus,...ummm....happy gardening!
Reply:If you have lilly of the valley in the bed and they are doing well, you want to plant flowers that are shade tolerant as lilies of the valley don%26#039;t do well in full sun so the bed is probably shaded. Best option for information is to contact the county agricultural extension agent%26#039;s office. These folks are usually full of information on anything and everything and very willing to share it.

What flowers work well to press?

I made cards last year to fund my trip to china to work in an orphanage..... I%26#039;m planning on doing the same again this year..... the only flower i found that worked was the passion flower....

any ideas?! =]

What flowers work well to press?
Buttercups and daisies, pansy%26#039;s as they are flat already.

I haven%26#039;t pressed flowers for years. I used to put them in a heavy book in between greaseproof paper, and make bookmarks out of them.
Reply:Any flower with a single row of petals should press well. They dry most quickly. Craft shops like Michael%26#039;s actually sell presses with layers of cardboard and tightening screws with butterflies on them.

The Muse
Reply:lots of primroses round our way , and probably elsewhere - woodland margins . They would work but may lose some of their colour.

I really like Companion Gardening. Does anyone know what plants go well together? Flowers & Veg?

For example Carrots and Tomatoes grow well together and benefit each other.

Many Thanks for Your Insight!!

I really like Companion Gardening. Does anyone know what plants go well together? Flowers %26amp; Veg?
I seem to run into you a lot. Nice to recognize someone here.

A good rule of thumb is if they taste good together, grow them together. Like tomatoes and basil with oregano. Plant beans under corn-pole beans-theyll climb the corn. Plant squash under the beans. The indians called this the 3 sisters it works so well.

Check out any books by Rodales Organic Gardening. They will tell you everything you need to know
Reply:I%26#039;ve grown basil and tomatoes together, also tomatoes and calendula. Marigolds are good garden companions to most everything.

Is well water good for watering garden plants,flowers..etc?

can we use the water taken from the well to water the home garden..

Is well water good for watering garden plants,flowers..etc?
One answer is that well water is usually always better than municipal water because city water has so much chlorine injected in it. One question is what is in your well water? All well water is different. There%26#039;s probably a 95% chance your well water will be perfectly fine for your garden, but if your well water is high in Nitrates or Iron Bacteria then it is horrible for your plants. You can have your water tested for free here:

http://www.virginpacificwater.com/watera...
Reply:I have city water that I use in my house. But I also have a well that I use to water my lawn, garden, and use it to wash cars. So sure you should be able to with no problem!
Reply:years ago our grandparents and greatgrandparents had lots of flowers and well water. These days if I were you I%26#039;d send my well water off to be tested to see what%26#039;s in it. Then take the results to your county%26#039;s horticulture department and ask what you should add to the water to make your plants grow at their best.
Reply:It is better than city water, Providing there is no salt or arsenic. I would take a sample and have it analyzed to be safe. You have another alternative is to collect rain water, Just put a barrel under the down spout or eve trove and you cant get any better.
Reply:Works great for my parents.
Reply:My word, yes!!! As a matter of fact, it%26#039;s probably better...less chemicals. I use it all the time cause it%26#039;s all I have. Hasn%26#039;t killed me so figure safe for plants. Not to sound sarcastic but what do you think they used 100 years ago? Well water comes from underground springs.
Reply:well water might be better than city water cuz you dont put any chemicals or things like that in you well so yeah i would think that well water would be the best for your plants
Reply:Its probably the best water to get unless you have a creekyou can pump water from. In my little town, the whole town gets water from a well. But, the EPA has done tests over the last 10 years and the water is JUST barely fit for human consumption, but everybody%26#039;s garden grows great. City water isn%26#039;t really water is it? After all the processing? Its the same difference between a home grown tomato and one from a grocery store. They just ain%26#039;t the same, close but not the same.
Reply:Absolutely! I grew up with a well on our property and that%26#039;s all we used. We had a wonderful garden!

LIME will neutralize the saline. Get the type that is beads so you can see how much you are applying.
Reply:Check with one of yuour local nurseries. Install a water filter.
Reply:This is something I heard on the radio the other day. Ashes (from a fireplace or burned brush pile) will help.

Plants that like there roots in cool shade, well drained soil and flowers in the sun?

I have a flower bed against a low wall. The soil is usally cool and is well drained but once any thing grows abve 30cm/ 12in it%26#039;s in full sun with little wind. Any help please, want summer colour

Plants that like there roots in cool shade, well drained soil and flowers in the sun?
%26quot;Meanolmaw%26quot; has beaten me to the punch..lol. The %26quot;clematis%26quot; is perfect for the conditions you have described. Big beautiful flowers as well. However, with clematis you%26#039;ll need to provide a trellis of some sort for the vines to cling onto as they grow.

Reply:Roses. Like roots in cool ground/ie mulched, Loves well drained soil, buts need moisture And flowers in sun

I know as this is how I grow my roses, No failures
Reply:clamentis its a vine that is very controllable and the flowers come in all the shades of the rainbow and ever thing from single to double blooms they come back every year too and every year they are bigger and better
Reply:Zinnia
Reply:clematis vines
Reply:Lilies are another plant that enjoy those conditions, though if there is too much wind they may require some support. If you plan carefully and intermingle some other perennials with them you could have dramatic color all season. Lilies are one of those wonderful plants that look elegant and difficult but which actually require almost nothing from you.

Frankly your conditions don%26#039;t sound extreme enough to really limit your plant choices all that much. Many tough old-fashioned perennials will put up with alot if they get a good shot of sun. I don%26#039;t know your climatic conditions but odds are that things like Tall Garden Phlox, Coneflower, Bee-balm, Rudbeckia and the like would do just fine. Most annuals would probably work fine too.

A 'date' (well I hope it will be one)... should I bring flowers or a bottle of wine? Going to the cinema...

You may recoignise me from an email I sent earlier. I might be meeting my ex next week and goign to the cinema. I want to get her something, but should I get flowers or a bottle of wine... wine bing easier to carry and not in the way at the cinema...

A %26#039;date%26#039; (well I hope it will be one)... should I bring flowers or a bottle of wine? Going to the cinema...
Homer J ...Lmao

It doesn%26#039;t matter what you bring ... but if any .. bring some charisma.

That will impress her more than anything you can buy.

Dr bad
Reply:thats better ,,... now you seem to have the right idea ;-~) Report It

Reply:flowers. you may not be able to go in the cinema with your own alchol.
Reply:how about something different like christmas crackers or a pair of gloves in case her fingers get cold on the way to the restaurant afterwards... (just for something strangely different...) if you are going to the cinema wine is the wrong choice, even if you are eating out after, you probably wouldnt be able to open it there. how about a really pretty gift box with a selection of pick and mix for the cinema, or a really posh small box of chocs. use your imagination. flowers will be cumbersome to her when she goes to sit in the cinema, especially if she needs to pop out to the bathroom. good luck with the date.
Reply:Take her for a nice romantic meal, she won%26#039;t want to carry flowers or a bottle of wine on a date, unless you are meeting her at her house, if so, then take both........Good luck, you sound like a really nice guy. X
Reply:both
Reply:Does bringing something make you look....like you have an agenda? (Maybe you have, but it shouldn%26#039;t LOOK like it)

Treat her to dinner afterwards, and if you really feel you need to get her something, make it something small but personal that says %26#039;I like you, so I though hard about this%26#039; ie NOT flowers, wine or chocolates. Does she like music? Maybe that CD she%26#039;s been after for ages... or....its tricky when you don%26#039;t know her, but I%26#039;m sure you can think of something. (For example, my husband bid for a CD single from eBay. He knew I%26#039;d been after it for years, and it didn%26#039;t cost him much, but it let me know that he%26#039;d been thinking about me. And listening!
Reply:expensive chocolates..
Reply:If you are going to her house first then take some flowers but if you are meeting her outside then take nothing..you might be able to pick up a red rose that people sell in the street.
Reply:Bag of Butterkist popcorn will do just fine.
Reply:tell her ur desperate for a shag . that always works
Reply:a flask of Jim Beam (half emptyed)

She%26#039;s your ex. Put her in her place. Nothing says you don%26#039;t really care than letting her know that you had to get half drunk on second-rate whiskey just to power through an evening with her.
Reply:flowers will always go down well... roses for love
Reply:i say flowers, especially if one of u drives a bug... cuz they have vases built right in!!! but a bottle of wine would be nice too. even though i am against acohol
Reply:If this is your ex, how did your relationship end last time? If it was you that called it quits, then it%26#039;s perhaps OK to bring something.. But otherwise.. Don%26#039;t sound too %26#039;desperate%26#039; ;) The simple fact that you%26#039;re with her that evening should be the reward for her. ;)

And wine for a lady? Plus you don%26#039;t have a place to store it during the cinema?

Why don%26#039;t you take her to the restaurant and pay the bill?
Reply:BRING BOTH AND SPOIL HER YOU MAY GET REWARDED
Reply:i say flowers. us girls love flowers. and trust me i wouldn%26#039;t mind lugging them around cuz i%26#039;d be showing them off to all the other girls thinking to myself %26quot;look at what i%26#039;ve got!%26quot;
Reply:You can%26#039;t take wine into the cinema with you. She might think you are hinting at going back to hers to drink the wine after the flicks, she might think that%26#039;s too pushy. A smallish box of chocs might be e better idea. Flowers?......a bit too corney. If there is a flower seller outside the cinema when you come out then maybe, show her you can be spontaneous. Otherwise send her flowers the next day with a note.

When an actress is in a play, you give her flowers. What do you give an actor for a performance well done?

My boyfriend is appearing in a play this Saturday.

I am not sure what I should give him. Should I give him flowers, or a more %26quot;guyish%26quot; sort of gift to tell him I appreciate the work he%26#039;s just done on stage?

When an actress is in a play, you give her flowers. What do you give an actor for a performance well done?
This is my feeling about this.

I am a 39 year old male, straight. (Just as a reference for you).

I know guys say it%26#039;s all feminine for a guy to get flowers but I am telling you that when my wife and I were first dating I bought flowers constantly and loved doing that for her but one day, I was in class and flowers were delivered to me in front of everyone. It blew me away and I think it was one of the nicest/ sweetest gifts ever and I will always remember that. I think this actor of yours would be touched by your actions and find it such a nice surprise.
Reply:I think flowers should be fine. Male actors do receive bouquet of flowers as well. Well, I think your boyfriend would be happy to whatever gift he is receiving. It%26#039;s the thoughts that counts =)
Reply:When I used to perform in shows my friends and family gave me things like hand written notes or go to hallmark store and make your own personalized card for him.
Reply:whenever i am in a show everyone gets flowers, guys and girls. in the theatre flowers are a way of saying good job to everyone. its also fun to go out for ice cream with a bunch of people after a show! gifts aren%26#039;t everything, talking to people about the experience you just had is very valuable.
Reply:You could go to a restaurant and have the staff tell him Congratulations right before they shove a large cream pie in his face.

Or wait till you get home and do it yourself.

Too much water, you have blossom rot. Make sure the water is drained away from those plants, don%26#039;t let them sit in water.

What kinds pretty flowers grow well in the shade?

My house faces North, and I have a strip of a garden bed that runs along the front of my home and it%26#039;s in the shade all day long. There are Hostas there now and they grow very well, and I like that they come back every year, but I find them boring! Any ideas?

What kinds pretty flowers grow well in the shade?
Some perennials (they come back every year) are Lilly of the valley, it%26#039;s beautiful; you can find it in bulb or plant form, bleeding heart, fuchsia is beautiful and unusual, (also known as %26quot;ladies eardrops) and toad lillies, which are very unique.

Vinca is a good vining ground cover that has pretty purple flowers, it%26#039;s also a perennial.

Shrubs that do well are azaleas and hydrangea bushes.

Annuals (will not come back) that enjoy shade are impatiens, Lenten rose (very pretty and unusual), wax begonias, wishbone flower and violets.

I have some shade in my yard, too, so I%26#039;ve done some research!
Reply:In addition to the many good suggestions here, consider coleus. They have very colorful foliage, not flowers. They come in a number of bright and dark colors. They compliment flowering shade plants and provide nice contrasts. Easy to grow in all shade.
Reply:Begonias and vincas come to mind immediately! They are both shade loving plants and come in lots of colors.
Reply:Impatiens, Rose Parade from Burpee are the newest hybrid that look like mini roses. They are so pretty.

Annual Begonia also have single or double blooms.

Hydrangea, pink in alkaline soil and blue in acid soil.
Reply:Have you tried Impatients they are very pretty and bloom in reds , pinks , purple and white. They prefer shade and do well with hostas. They can be gotten at most places that sell flats of flowers. They are annuals but are cheap.
Reply:Reds, Purples and Browns add depth and intrigue to the foliage aspect of a shade garden.

Look for Heuchera ‘Palace Purple’, Heuchera ‘Chocolate Ruffles’, Rodgersia, Cimicifugia racemosa‘Hillside Black Beauty’, Ceratostigma plumbaginoides, Epimedium, Gaultheria, and Filipendula to name a few. Ajuga reptans %26#039;Bronze Beauty%26#039; or %26#039;Burgundy Glow%26#039; cover the ground and give a lovely contrast to the taller green hosta.

Leaves are more than Green and Flat. Contrast those hosta. Start with feathery Dicentra, heart-shaped Epimedium, mounded Geranium, shiny, dark Asarum, filigreed Corydalis, upright ferns, colorful Lamium, small whorled Galium, arching Polygonum, laddered alternate Polemonium, delicate Trollius, vertical Lilium, sword-like Hemerocallis, oak-leaf Tiarella, and shiny, fern-like Astilbe.

There are a few roses that will tolerate shade well. A minimum of 3 hours of direct is necessary, or 6 or more hours of dappled sunlight. The Hybrid Musk Ballerina or Bubble Bath.

Ballerina- single pink and white that look like apple blossoms.

Bubble Bath - Fragrant lavender pink to nearly white dainty two inch flowers.

I dont know her that well, would sending her flowers be wierd..?

The thing is, i know she is interested in me, and i am interested in her, i met her before i was sent over seas, and %26quot;you guessed it%26quot;

Im still overseas, so i cant exactly get to know her, but would sending her flowers be wierd, or come off a lil creepy?

I dont know her that well, would sending her flowers be wierd..?
I think it would be sweet. I wouldn%26#039;t send a lot of flowers, maybe just one rose or something with a card that says %26quot;thinking of you%26quot;.
Reply:No flowers! As in not because it is creepy or weird, but many girls i know hate getting flowers. Flowers are boring and you can%26#039;t keep them for long. Go ahead and give her something else and just get to know her more like chatting with her in any Messenger or send her emails, ecards, etc. Tell her your feelings after both of you know each other well enough. It shouldn%26#039;t be difficult since you mentioned she is also interested in you. Good luck to you! hope you get the girl!
Reply:if u know her address{break the ice that way}...If she replys she is also thinkin of u...LOL
Reply:flowers are the loveliest way to break ice...dont send a corny one liner with it though :)
Reply:NO, send the flowers. She will love it!
Reply:send her the flowers she will definetly love them and i think it is the nicest and romantic thing to do
Reply:If you liked her, it might be a safe way to let her know she has an admirer overseas. It could be construed as a little creepy by some people, but I think most would think it%26#039;s really sweet.
Reply:No, send the flowers! Write something nice on the card like
Reply:sounds really nice. Some girls might find it creepy, while others will completely be warmed and touched by it.

I would love it, personally, but I would also be wondering why someone I don%26#039;t know that well yet would send me flowers when he%26#039;s away.

If you sent fun flowers then it would be really cute and thoughtful. Like daisies and stuff, just no roses or anything romantic like that.

She%26#039;ll be flattered knowing that you%26#039;re thinking of her in that way instead of a %26quot;I love you%26quot; way. That might creep her out.

:)
Reply:taking a step.....is better...then doing nothing

dont afred ...do that...she will like that

girl like the bold boys who takes ...the 1st step...
Reply:well if u don;t send her red roses then i don%26#039;t think will be weird and if u don%26#039;t send her sm dead flowers then it wont be creepy.......so i think if u send her sm daises or cute flowers like that it will do the trick.
Reply:not at all. do it.
Reply:it wont be wierd as long as she remembers who you are, send her some flowers with a note, she may well be surprised that ur still thinking of her,
Reply:Not a bad idea. Give it a try
Reply:Every woman that I know loves to receive flowers. It will not be creepy as long as you don%26#039;t do it in a creepy way, make sure you say who they are from, don%26#039;t send them to her home address even if you know it. Sending to her work place will be much better. Even better ask her out and arrive to pick her up with flowers. Sorry just read the continuation of your question, being that far away you can%26#039;t ask her out on a date, but you could accompany the flowers with a note asking for a date the next time you are in the same country and say you will be thinking of her everyday until that day comes.
Reply:not creepy...flowers are nice to receive...send the flowers!
